You can use this sub for long term, as it has this advanced heat sink design for maximum heat dissipation and the 4-way protection circuitry. This gives you optimal sound for a long time and add more durability to the speaker.One con is that if you hook it up to any speaker, you may not get the sound level you’re looking for. Strangely, this gets fixed when you use amps from the same company.
Then, it draws a little over 100 amps at clipping at 12.5 volts, putting out somewhere around 1300 watts! The amp sounds great, puts out decent power when running a Skar zvx 15 and similar.
Next, fitting the sub taking in the angle, wiring, output into consideration is tough. Wiring up the bass knobs, the sub-base can create some gaps that affect the sound of the sub.This is disappointing, and for the cost these problems should not be happening – and Skar does produce some decent subs, amps etc.
That aside, what is good about the speaker is the quality looks and feels way better and is pretty heavy. Skar audio is very conservative with their ratings, as even the subs that are supposed to be 2000 RM can push out almost 2,268 RMS at 1 OHM. You can dyno test the subs, Shar does do their own dyno that you can see online.
Looking at the price, one would think that it may not deliver quality sound, but this can push2- 12” alpine type r’s and with the voltage at 12 when the car isn’t running and at 14v, its even better.
The install kit is missing some essential items, but nothing that you can’t replace easily. One thing to note is that you need a plastic screwdriver, so that you don’t chance messing anything up by grounding out the amp when adjusting the knobs. Like we pointed out earlier, the installation is tricky. They recommend a 160 amp that’s hard to find, but you can easily run it on a 150 amp fuse and it should work fine.
The bass knob won’t make much of a difference, so you do have to rely on the factory head unit in the car. But, with these few hiccups, this Skar sub isa great amp at a great price. The sub is also a great choice if you need something smaller, or to drive to the max and beyond and still use it the next day.
Excellent performance with no overheating whatsoever – but you do have to spend time on installing it and connecting it with professional grade equipment for best results.
